Rivirere wins 11th US Pro Singles

Rivirere wins 11th US Pro Singles

by Mike Gooding The return of the US Professional singles playing for the Schochet Cup was a very welcome addition to the USCTA calendar. Typically held in June, the postponed 2021 version took place in October. At the prescribed time, six weeks before the event’s start, the entry went out with hopes of a full draw. Hopes were dashed on the 10th of September when the IWCC removed the World ranking and race points from the tournament due to covid restrictions and cost of travel. Now, with that disappointing decision, the US Professional singles was going to be an all-domestic… Read the Full Story >

2021 Jimmy Knott

2021 Jimmy Knott

by Tony Hollins A big thank you to everyone who played in this year’s event. We had a fantastic crowd to watch some incredible court tennis, which was a breathe of fresh air after a long hiatus from national court tennis events during COVID-19. This was the event of the up-and-comers with both events won by unseeded players. Pete Dickinson defeated Ben Hudson 6/3, 5/6, 6/4 in another epic match to claim the A Division. Wes Traub defeated Connor Richmond 6/5, 6/5 in a very tight affair to win the B division. CLICK HERE TO VIEW FULL RESULTS

2021 Hadden Tomes

2021 Hadden Tomes

In the Racquets world, the third weekend of October signifies the annual Hadden Tomes event in Tuxedo Park. However, as we all managed through a global pandemic for the past two years, dreams of themed parties and on-court competition remained a [caterpillar] pipe dream. Cue Friday, October 15th. On a perfect fall day, Hadden Tomes ramped back up into full force with an Alice in Wonderland themed weekend. As the matches kicked off Friday, costumes adorned the court of rabbits, Alices, Queens of Hearts, and more. That evening the tennis house was filled with live music courtesy of Rich Mueller,… Read the Full Story >

2021 Senior Challenge

We had a great turnout for the first tournament back at the RCOP! Eight teams descended upon the club split into two groups. One group had the higher handicaps in it with the other group consisting of the lower handicap pairings. Both groups had some fantastic matches with Group 1 being decided on the last point between Steve Hufford & Mark Philpott vs Greg Van Schaack & Peter Clement. 9 games all, 40 all game point with both teams playing it safe but Van Schaack & Clement prevailing to take them into the final. In Group 2 Arthur Horowitz &… Read the Full Story >

2021 Pell Cup

2021 Pell Cup

2021 PELL CUP REPORT by Mike Gooding What had angered the gods so much in order to place 2021 Pell Cup between Scylla and Charybdis, in our terms, a once in a hundred-year pandemic and a once in a thirty year hurricane. We had already waited a long two years since the last Pell Cup was held and as such, those tournament results had already faded from memory. There was a glimmer of hope in early May that we would be able to hold this year’s Pell Cup, with the dropping of restrictions that included playing without a mask and… Read the Full Story >

International Tennis Day 2021

June 20, 2021, marked the eighth anniversary of International Tennis Day. There was plenty of on-court activity in the US and overseas both on Sunday, June 20, and Monday, June 21. Tennis players celebrated the day with continuous play that included handicap tournaments, singles and doubles matches, and lessons. We understand that there were some highly competitive matches and received several photos from Newport, Philadelphia, New York, Tuxedo, Ballarat, Paris, Bordeaux, and Fontainebleau. Needless to say, the courts were in full swing. Enjoy the photos and we look forward to celebrating tennis again next year, on Monday, June 20, 2022.

USCTA Scheduling Committee Report  May 14, 2021 The Scheduling Committee met May 4th and conversed about the activity at each club and the viability for returning to tournament play.  As one can imagine, there is some variance in the rules for each club’s usage, but there is a sense that things continue to head in the right direction. Nearly all report an uptick in on-court lessons, recreational games, and intra-club tournaments. The committee also discussed a draft of a “Pathway to Play” document. Its contents aim to give clubs a guiding instrument to help think about how best to host a… Read the Full Story >

USCTA Handicap & Ranking Committee Report

In coordination with the tennis associations across the globe, the usual dormancy adjustment has been suspended in Real Tennis Online with effect from March 23, 2020 and until such time as there are no government-imposed restrictions upon the play of both singles and doubles. The adjustments to handicaps in RTO due to regular play, when play is permitted, will still be in effect; only the dormancy adjustment for lack of play will be suspended at this time. Be safe, play well, and we look forward to continuous play.
