by John Lumley We had the biggest Percy Cup to date with ten teams entering the battle for the coveted Percy Cup trophy. Play started early on Friday as Philadelphia 3 narrowly took down Aiken on countback to play Philadelphia 1 later in the day. Boston played well to beat Washington 1 — two matches to one. The match between Jeff Smith and Daniel Hsu versus Temple Grassi and Brendan Welsh was a barn burner with Smith and Hsu taking it 8-7 in the final point! by Mit Carothers – Aiken Tennis Chair The Aiken Tennis Club was pleased to host the 2019 edition of the Wharton Cup. Players from New York, Washington, Philadelphia and Charleston joined local players to form a field of 12 players to compete for the title. by Charlie Michele Over President’s Day weekend, The Tuxedo Club hosted the 117thGold Racquets, as well as the US Pro Singles Rackets Championship. Event Chairs Kim Kilgore, Laura Tillsley and Charlie Michele pulled out all of the stops with a full itinerary. On Friday night, there was a delicious pasta bar for players and guests served at the Tennis House. The galleries were packed throughout the evening, with many patrons utilizing the Club-brewed “Tuxedo Ale” on draft to loosen up the vocal chords. by John Lumley We had a fantastic turnout for the 2019 Noll Cup with twenty entrants ready to fight it out for the 30-39 level championship. The first round matches were pretty straight forward with the first battle of the day going to Morgan Purvis taking it five-games all 40-all against Dick Tanfield in the final set. On Thursday, February 7th, the Racquet Club of Chicago hosted the New England team in the debut of the 2019 USCTA Court Tennis National League. A partisan crowd of 75 members was keen to cheer on Chicago to victory over an in-form New England team. By A Supporter Of The Ladies’ Game The 2019 Anne Boleyn was graciously hosted by the Racquet Club of Philadelphia over the weekend February 9/10. Eleven ladies did battle over the two days and thanks to John Lumley’s creativity with the draw they all were able to spend lots of time on court. by Arthur Horowitz The 2019 Hickey Cup, 60s level tournament, was hosted by the Georgian Court University over February 1stweekend. The tournament drew a field of 16 players from Philadelphia, Washington, DC, New York, Tuxedo, Newport, and Georgian Court University. The Philadelphia players dominated the tournament play, but it was also the impressive debut of a number of Georgian Court athletes and athletic coaches.
