by John Lumley Eight teams competed for the 2020 Percy Cup. Three from Philadelphia, two from New York, and one each from New England, Washington, and Tuxedo. We used a knock-out draw format for the weekend, with first-round losers going into a back draw. On Sunday, the finals of the back draw were played first with Philadelphia 2 squaring off against Tuxedo. We had a fast start to the day as Peter Griffith & Matt Delfiner taking the win 10-7 over Dave Christensen & Alexandre Gallo. Staying on the service end was vital, as both teams served well. The back draw saw some fantastic matches and some players for the future with Brittany Miller coming out on top over Kathy Minevitz. Thanks to all of the ladies who traveled from near and far to participate and create another fun weekend at the T&R. Thanks… Read the Full Story >

by John Lumley We had an excellent turnout for the US 50s singles and doubles championships with twenty-one players. In the first round singles, Guy Elzey & Jon Auerbach was the highlight match with Elzey taking the win 3-6, 6-5, 6-3 with some very long and intense points. In the quarterfinals, Jeremy Wintersteen had a convincing win over John Madzin to secure his spot in the semis. Jim Zug had a good first set against Mark Philpott, but Philpott fought back in the second set to take it 6-4 and level the match. Zug, turning up the heat, found some… Read the Full Story >

The top two players, Ben Hudson from Boston and Dylan Patterson from New York made it to the last match of this year’s Greevy Cup without dropping a set to the DC locals. Dylan took the first set of the final 6-3 dominating from the service end with a wide variety of serves that seemed to limit Ben’s returns and frustrate him into a number of unforced errors. At four all in the second set there weren’t many unbitten fingernails left in the dedans. Seven deuces later Hudson hit the base of the Tambour two shots in a row and… Read the Full Story >

The USCTA National Junior Handicap tournament took place at Prince’s Court on January 17-19. Thirteen entrants played in their age category (U13, U15, U17, U19), and in one big side tourney, we called “The Main event.” Many thanks to Asher Ricci and Aidan Russo, who traveled from Philly and Newport, respectively. Forty-one matches were played over three days. Notably, of the thirteen juniors, only two had family members who had introduced them to the sport. Eight of the parents have taken up court tennis after their kids started playing! Finals Results: U13 Final: Elliot Philpott defeated Wyatt Courson 6-1 U15… Read the Full Story >
