Event Chairs Kim Kilgore, Laura Tillsley and Charlie Michele pulled out all of the stops with a full itinerary. On Friday night, there was a delicious pasta bar for players and guests served at the Tennis House. The first round matches were pretty straight forward with the first battle of the day going to Morgan Purvis taking it five-games all 40-all against Dick Tanfield in the final set. On Thursday, February 7th, the Racquet Club of Chicago hosted the New England team in the debut of the 2019 USCTA Court Tennis National League. A partisan crowd of 75 members was keen to cheer on Chicago to victory over an in-form New England team. Eleven ladies did battle over the two days and thanks to John Lumley’s creativity with the draw they all were able to spend lots of time on court. by Arthur Horowitz The 2019 Hickey Cup, 60s level tournament, was hosted by the Georgian Court University over February 1stweekend.  The tournament drew a field of 16 players from Philadelphia, Washington, DC, New York, Tuxedo, Newport, and Georgian Court University. The Philadelphia players dominated the tournament play, but it was also the impressive debut of a number of Georgian Court athletes and athletic coaches. Peabody wins 2019 Burke Cup

by Nick Howell Newport hosted the Burke Cup this year. We had twelve entries with six from Newport and the other six coming from DC & Boston. The Burke Cup kicked off with a great match between two of our members — Sewall Hodges & James Chamberlain. James is college student and the grandson of former NTC president, John Murphy. He has been playing the last few months and it’s hard to keep him off the court.  Despite James being eight points weaker on handicap, he really made Sewall work hard to grind out a win 6-4 6-5. By John Lumley A Bathurst Academy training camp was held on December 15 and 16 at Georgian Court University (GCU) and Philadelphia. The camp was led by John Lumley. The first day was held at GCU, where John met up with Peter Cipriano (New York), Alex Spence and Todd Meringoff (both Boston). After a quick warm-up, John led the players through a series of doubles drills. From a keen observer…. The Etchebaster trophy was keenly contested at the Racquet Club of Chicago from January 18th-20th 2019. Although it was very cold with lots of snow falling over the weekend, we had 5 players coming in from New York and Washington. There was also a strong field of Chicago players and some notable performances go to Ben Olson and Jonathan Lewis who both had good runs to the semi-final.
