In the final, Ben Hudson won over Todd Meringoff in a close three-set match, which displayed impressive skill from both players. The Racquet and Tennis Club had the pleasure of once again hosting the Below Zero this fall. This year boasted the strongest draw to date in the events 9th anniversary. A strong showing from all the top young players, including America’s newest professional Max Trueman, going head-to-head against the seasoned favorites. TWO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN NEWPORT IN 2025! 2025 will be a historic year for court tennis in Newport. The National Tennis Club will be the first club in history to host both the Ladies’ Real Tennis World Championship and the Real Tennis World Championship in the same year. USCTA Season Kickoff: Senior Challenge Tennis Tournament Recap by Rob Whitehouse This past weekend, the Pro Shop successfully launched the USCTA season with two exciting draws. Held on Friday and Saturday, the Senior Challenge Tennis Tournament brought together 20 players, filling the courts with competitive spirit and camaraderie. by Ivan Ronladson Following the Junior Academy at the end of July, Westwood hosted the USCTA U11s, U13s, and U15s. In the U11s, Magnus Mitby (Haven Pell’s grandson) won the final 8-0 against Liliana Ronaldson. With a handicap of 65 and only ten years old, Magnus is almost certainly the World #1 in his age group. The U13s and U15s were dominated by Kurt Mueller from Tuxedo. Kurt almost stumbled against Jack Morrison in the U15 semi-final, winning an 8-7, 40 all-match point nail-biter. This year was an exception, with sixty-six players registered for the doubles event. The teams are divided into five divisions, including the Pro Division and A to D divisions. by Henry Henman At the end of July, the tenth Annual National Court Tennis Junior Academy, funded by the USCTPF Player Development Fund, occurred at Westwood Country Club. The week was an excellent opportunity for the juniors to learn and improve technique, strategy, and match play while they could also meet new friends and faces with a similar passion for court tennis.
