The fourth annual Spring Invitational and Pro-Am was hosted by the Racquet and Tennis Club May 3rd to 6th.  Sixteen players competed in the Main Draw, of which eight were professionals and eight were amateurs. Shep Skiff and Matt Mackin won the two Qualifier spots that took place Wednesday and Thursday, and included Manek Mathur, Eric Bedel, Phil Stockton and Dylan Patterson, all representing New York. R.D. Sears Cup

Last month the Tennis and Racquet Club hosted another edition of it’s flagship event, the Sears Cup. There were upward of 150 matches played, spread over the three sports (court tennis, racquets, and squash). Alongside the athletics the participants and members enjoyed a Saturday evening 1920’s themed shin dig featuring the Gatsby Gang Jazz Band. The Racquet Club of Chicago proudly hosted the 2018 U.S. 40s Singles and Doubles from May 11-13. The tournament was very evenly matched with the top seven players in the draw within 4 handicap points of each other and winning would come down to who performed at their best in the pivotal moments. Ryan Carey was in dominant form from the start as he dispatched British hopeful Nick Browne 6-5, 6-2. Carey followed that up by beating the in-form local, Max Drake, by the same score line. By Mit Carothers, Tennis Chair Aiken Tennis Club With five teams entered in the 2018 Northrop Knox Tournament, a round robin format with each team playing 4 matches offered the most tennis for the teams entered and for the galleries attending. Teams entered included last year’s finalists, first time visitors to the Aiken Tennis Club, returning out of towners and first time participants. by John Lumley We had a very strong turnout for the U.S. Amateur in Philadelphia. Nineteen players arrived on Friday for a full day’s play. As with any court tennis event the first two matches took over four hours and put us two hours behind schedule. Alex Spence took down Henry Smith in a great match 6-5 5-6 6-0. Noah Motz had the win of his career to date taking down Jeremy Wintersteen 5-6 6-5 6-4 and generating some scary pace when forcing. By John Lumley We had eight strong teams descend upon Philadelphia for the 2018 Percy Cup. Friday’s play saw a great start from Newport only dropping 1 game from the maximum they could have gotten. Philadelphia 1 team also had a dream start winning all of their matches in their first game. By Chris Aley Prince’s Court welcomed players from Newport, New York, Boston and Philadelphia to the 2018 USCTA Amateur Doubles championship – the draw boasted some of America’s finest players, and the standard of play was exceptional. Early rounds all went the way of the seeded players, with local pair Dan Sternberg and Vu Hoang having set points against the number 2 seeds Danny McBride (Princes) and Todd Meringoff  (Boston) – eventually losing 5-6 1-6.
