The Boston Marathon weekend was a fitting backdrop for the 2019 US Amateur Court Tennis Championships. Due to the fantastic depth of the draw, there was no easy path through to the final and the players’ mental and physical strength was truly tested. The tournament was very well represented nationally, with seven out of the nine active courts in America having at least one member taking part. by John Lumley We had the biggest Percy Cup to date with ten teams entering the battle for the coveted Percy Cup trophy. Play started early on Friday as Philadelphia 3 narrowly took down Aiken on countback to play Philadelphia 1 later in the day. Boston played well to beat Washington 1 — two matches to one. Players from New York, Washington, Philadelphia and Charleston joined local players to form a field of 12 players to compete for the title. by Charlie Michele Over President’s Day weekend, The Tuxedo Club hosted the 117thGold Racquets, as well as the US Pro Singles Rackets Championship. Event Chairs Kim Kilgore, Laura Tillsley and Charlie Michele pulled out all of the stops with a full itinerary. On Friday night, there was a delicious pasta bar for players and guests served at the Tennis House. By A Supporter Of The Ladies’ Game The 2019 Anne Boleyn was graciously hosted by the Racquet Club of Philadelphia over the weekend February 9/10. Eleven ladies did battle over the two days and thanks to John Lumley’s creativity with the draw they all were able to spend lots of time on court. by Arthur Horowitz The 2019 Hickey Cup, 60s level tournament, was hosted by the Georgian Court University over February 1stweekend. The tournament drew a field of 16 players from Philadelphia, Washington, DC, New York, Tuxedo, Newport, and Georgian Court University. The Philadelphia players dominated the tournament play, but it was also the impressive debut of a number of Georgian Court athletes and athletic coaches.
