In the U11s, Magnus Mitby (Haven Pell’s grandson) won the final 8-0 against Liliana Ronaldson. With a handicap of 65 and only ten years old, Magnus is almost certainly the World #1 in his age group. The U13s and U15s were dominated by Kurt Mueller from Tuxedo. Kurt almost stumbled against Jack Morrison in the U15 semi-final, winning an 8-7, 40 all-match point nail-biter. This year was an exception, with sixty-six players registered for the doubles event. The teams are divided into five divisions, including the Pro Division and A to D divisions. Sand Valley, WI July 15-17 By Steven Virgona The 2024 US National Open was played at the newest tennis court in the world at Sand Valley, Wisconsin, from July 15-17. Set on 12,000 acres of sand dunes in central Wisconsin and comprising five world-class golf courses, it is a majestic place to play court tennis. 12 players (11 professionals and one amateur) traveled from Chicago, New York, Boston, Aiken, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. to compete for the title. The top 2 seeds, Rakesh Jasani and Geoff Ellis received byes to the semifinals. Top seed Todd Meringoff (Boston T&R) played Bill Barker (Westwood) in one singles semifinal. Todd won the match 6/4 6/3. On the other side of the draw, Brook Hazelton (New York R&T) played John Motz (Westwood).
