The Calhoun Witham Trophy delivered an exciting 4 days of tennis, with 18 teams competing fiercely across two divisions. The tournament is known for its tradition of competitive play and camaraderie, and this year’s event was no exception, featuring numerous thrilling three-set matches and showcasing the talents of seasoned players and newcomers.
Division A Final
Kadi Meldrum and Adam Haselkorn emerged as the champions of Division A, with a dominant performance in the finals. They convincingly defeated Dan Villiers and Kate Villiers with a scoreline of 6/2, 6/2. Meldrum and Haselkorn displayed remarkable synergy and consistency, neutralizing the Villiers duo’s efforts with powerful baseline play and sharp net skills.
Division B Final
In Division B, Laurie Sargent and Cheryl Glance claimed victory in a tightly contested final. They edged out Becky Mullins and Cheryl Marvin 6/3, 6/5 in a match that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. Sargent and Glance’s resilience and strategic shot selection proved decisive, especially during the critical moments of the second set.
A Historic Milestone
A noteworthy highlight of this year’s finals was the participation of six women—a first in the tournament’s history. Their presence in Division A and B finals reflects the event’s growing inclusivity and underscores women’s tennis’s strength and depth of talent.
