Claire Fahey Claims Record-Breaking 50th Open Title

Claire Fahey made history at the Tennis & Racquet Club, capturing her 50th Open singles title with a straight-sets victory over Saskia Bollerman in the final of the U.S. Ladies Open. She later returned to court to win the doubles title alongside Tara Lumley, capping a remarkable weekend of world-class play.

Whether it was her cut-volley, serving, tambour play, or groundstrokes, Fahey dictated play throughout, leaving little opportunity for her opponent, Saskia, to settle.

The victory marks Fahey’s 50th Open title, drawing her level with Robert Fahey for the most Open wins in the history of the sport. Her record is nothing short of extraordinary: 11 Australian Opens, 14 British Opens, 13 French Opens, and now 12 U.S. Opens. She has completed the calendar-year Grand Slam eight times and has been undefeated in women’s singles since 2010.

“This is a really special Open to me,” Fahey said following the match. “It’s amazing to be back here and to reach this milestone. I won my first Open in America in 2008, so it feels fitting to celebrate it here.”

Following the singles final, Fahey returned to court with Tara Lumley for the doubles championship match against Katherine Carney and Frederika Adam. Lumley’s aggressive presence at the net, combined with Fahey’s steady control from the back court, proved decisive as they secured the title in straight sets—marking Fahey’s return to the top of the U.S. Open doubles podium.

This year’s event was made possible through the generous support of the USCTPF and a number of T&R members whose financial contributions continue to elevate the level of play and experience we are able to offer. We are deeply grateful for that support.

A special thank you to Dan Nagler, our Tournament Chair, and the entire organizing committee for delivering a first-class event, and to Neil Smith for his leadership as the Club’s professional throughout the week.

Finally, it was fantastic to see such strong support from the T&R membership—from the energy and enthusiasm in the galleries during matches to the lively Friday evening cocktail party and a wonderful Saturday dinner at Eastern Standard. Events like this are at their best when the Club shows up, and this week was a perfect example of that.
