November 18th-21st marked the Jimmy Dunn return following the postponement last year due to the Pandemic. There was great excitement and buzz around the club, with 20 players from Boston coming. We also had players from Washington, Aiken, Manchester, New York, and Chicago. We had a record number of participants for the return of the Jimmy Dunn, with 126 participants playing numerous sports. Due to the size of the event, we had matches running from Thursday at 10 am until Sunday at 5 pm, with matches going to Friday at 1 am.
In the Open Division, Jon Crowell and Freddie Bristowe came through a scare in the Semi-Finals overcoming Rob Whitehouse and Andy Dick 6-5, 6-4. They took on Will Hopton and Simon Shenkman in the Final and got off to a tough start going 4-1 down in the first set. They recovered, taking the title home 6-4, 6-1 in a very entertaining match. In the A Division, Danny McBride and Frenchman Charlie Hurstel came through a nip and tuck match against James Asher and Norris Jordan. With the match evenly poised at 6-6, McBride and Hurstel started dictating the play and took control of the service side to take the match 10-6
Saby Bose and Tim Carroll produced some fantastic tennis in the B Division, with Carroll scampering around Bose, taking every volley at the earliest opportunity. They overcame William Bristowe and Mike Gorsen in a tense Semi-Final to progress 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. They took on Boston’s Ben Hudson and Tyler Sloan in Sunday’s Final. Bose and Carroll held their nerve to take the title 6-4, 6-5 in one of the Finals of the day. The C Division Washington’s George Ughetta and Englishman Nick Robson played some fantastic tennis, first taking out the #2 seeds Mark Beaumont and Paul Bolster 10-5 to set up a Final with #1 seeds John Iole and Schuyler Wickes. Ughetta and Robson were too strong, getting the win 10-6.
In the D1 Division, Connor Richmond and Chris Tomasevich showed devastating power to blast by Larry Wenglin and Lee Smith 10-5 in the Semi-Final and took apart #1 seeds Amy Wintersteen and Melissa Purcell 10-2 in the Final. In the semi-final, the D2 Division Steve Sader and Randy Barr showed excellent teamwork in dismissing the formidable team of Greg Certo and Stephen Wetherill 10-9. They continued their run to the Final, taking out Andrew Parmet and Ezekiel Silverstein 10-6.
The E1 Division squash players Mason Yeager and Miller Joyce showed their athleticism against Carlie Rice and Audrey Lehr in a great Final to take the title 10-8. In the E2 Division, Arianae Tsavaris and Vera Gordon played some of the best tennis we have seen from them, taking out Jeff and Anna Whitlock in the Semi-Finals 10-3. They came up against SJ Ayoub and Dave Smith in the Final but couldn’t continue their fine run of form, losing 10-6 in a very entertaining Final.
Thanks to everyone who came for this year’s Jimmy Dunn, and we hope to see everyone back again next year for another fantastic event.
