Congratulations to Ben Stein (R&T) on defeating Matt Breuer in the final of the Etchebaster 6/3 6/2. And to our own David Tedeschi on defeating Ben Stein in the Kendrick Cup 15/8 15/5. 2014 USCTA Annual Dinner & Awards

The seventeenth annual USCTA Dinner and Auction was held on the Friday of the Whitney Cup weekend in New York. A packed house gathered for an evening of conversation and awards, capped off by a live auction to benefit the Charleston Court project. A silent auction was held during the cocktail hour. USCTA President – Jeremy Wintersteen – presented the 2014 USCTA Awards during the dinner. Ranging from sportsmanship to literary achievement, the awards are the highest honor the Association presents on an annual basis. This year’s award winners are listed below. The Aiken Tennis Club hosted eleven professionals and two amateurs Dec 5-7 to compete in The U.S. National Open. Tournament Director Dacre Stoker received plenty of technical support from Camden Riviere to organize the Main draw and he also assisted in adding a Satellite and Pro Am event. Members of the ATC bought up many of the available tickets. The Racquet & Tennis Club hosted the 81st annual Payne Whitney Intercity Doubles competition December 12th – 14th. The tournament included six teams of ten players each with nearly all of the top-50 US amateurs represented. Matches were best of three set affairs with 2-2 shortened third sets and no deuce-ad scoring. Four young at heart rookies (Peter Cipriano, Geoff Ellis, John Saxe, and Gary Swantner) took to the courts in tow of their wizened teammates. 34th Annual Jimmy Dunn Tournament Weekend This year’s Jimmy Dunn hit record numbers with 25 draws and over 218 matches played starting Thursday at noon and ending Sunday at 6pm. There was record numbers in the squash draws and the tennis as always was sold out 3 weeks in advance with 78 players. Witham Handicap Doubles 2014 by Dacre Stoker The Aiken Tennis Club hosted the 2014 Calhoun Witham Handicap Doubles Tournament Nov. 14-16. We attracted a field of 20 teams with players representing the following clubs: Prince’s Court Washington, National Tennis Club Newport, Tennis and Rackets Club Boston, Racquet Club of Chicago Tuxedo, Lakewood, NYR&T and of course Aiken.
