Martino wins 2022 Etchebaster

By an interested observer The Etchebaster trophy was keenly contested at the Racquet Club of Chicago from January 21st – 23rd 2022. Although it was very cold over the weekend, we had 7 players coming in from New York, Boston, Detroit, Philadelphia and California. There was also a strong field of Chicago players and a notable performance goes to Jared Isenthal, who had a great run to the semi-final before losing to Philadelphia’s Tim Carroll 6/3 6/2. Chicago’s Chase Cochran, who was on the wrong end of a three-set thriller in the main event, went on to win the back… Read the Full Story >

Latest News from the USCTA Scheduling Committee

USCTA Scheduling Committee Report  May 14, 2021 The Scheduling Committee met May 4th and conversed about the activity at each club and the viability for returning to tournament play.  As one can imagine, there is some variance in the rules for each club’s usage, but there is a sense that things continue to head in the right direction. Nearly all report an uptick in on-court lessons, recreational games, and intra-club tournaments. The committee also discussed a draft of a “Pathway to Play” document. Its contents aim to give clubs a guiding instrument to help think about how best to host a… Read the Full Story >

USCTA Handicap & Ranking Committee Report

In coordination with the tennis associations across the globe, the usual dormancy adjustment has been suspended in Real Tennis Online with effect from March 23, 2020 and until such time as there are no government-imposed restrictions upon the play of both singles and doubles. The adjustments to handicaps in RTO due to regular play, when play is permitted, will still be in effect; only the dormancy adjustment for lack of play will be suspended at this time. Be safe, play well, and we look forward to continuous play.

Scheduling Committee Report – March 17, 2021

Hear ye, hear ye, signs of hope. Herein you will read that Covid continues to have us mostly mired in a waiting game as the world inches toward inoculation. Yet, there are significant movements afoot and hopeful signs of pathways forward. Here is a summary of what was reported at the February 26 meeting of the Board of Governors. Aiken: ATC continues to have a full schedule including doubles clinics and Monday night league. The Norty Knox would be the next tournament to consider but presently it is hard to see a way forward to host that in April. Boston:… Read the Full Story >

Scheduling Committee Report – 16 January 2021

The status quo continues for amateur play. There are rays of hopeful light shining on our game. Georgian Court University remains closed, and Newport and Boston have suffered regional restrictions and closures. But, at the other courts the amount of intraclub play is generally high, averaging 80% or more of normal court usage. At our clubs, there is no meaningful change to rules or attitudes about hosting guests: friendly and wishful but erring on the side of caution. Similarly, while there is hopeful interest in traveling to play, the general feeling is one of patient understanding that this won’t happen… Read the Full Story >

By James Zug The USCTA’s 23rd Annual Dinner was a fantastic, if remote reunion for the game of tennis in America.             Nearly a hundred members from across the country attended the Zoom call. After much conversation and admiration of the special Annual Dinner commemorative coasters, President Jim Zug welcomed everyone. He started the meeting with a moment of silence in memory of the friends who died in 2020. They included: Howard G. Cushing, Jr., Robert G. Forbes, David B. Ford, Sr., O.J. Heestand, Daniel J. McSweeney, C. Rodney O’Connor, Arthur B. Whitcomb, Jr., Donald M. Wilkinson, Jr. and Charles R. Williams.  … Read the Full Story >
