The Racquet & Tennis Club hosted the 81st annual Payne Whitney Intercity Doubles competition December 12th – 14th. The tournament included six teams of ten players each with nearly all of the top-50 US amateurs represented. Matches were best of three set affairs with 2-2 shortened third sets and no deuce-ad scoring. Four young at heart rookies (Peter Cipriano, Geoff Ellis, John Saxe, and Gary Swantner) took to the courts in tow of their wizened teammates. 34th Annual Jimmy Dunn Tournament Weekend This year’s Jimmy Dunn hit record numbers with 25 draws and over 218 matches played starting Thursday at noon and ending Sunday at 6pm. There was record numbers in the squash draws and the tennis as always was sold out 3 weeks in advance with 78 players. Witham Handicap Doubles 2014 by Dacre Stoker The Aiken Tennis Club hosted the 2014 Calhoun Witham Handicap Doubles Tournament Nov. 14-16. We attracted a field of 20 teams with players representing the following clubs: Prince’s Court Washington, National Tennis Club Newport, Tennis and Rackets Club Boston, Racquet Club of Chicago Tuxedo, Lakewood, NYR&T and of course Aiken. U.S. Ladies Open Results

The Singles Championship: The 2014 Ladies US Open kicked off with four round of 16 singles matches on Friday November 7th.  Helen Grassi and Alex Klara were the first match of the championship at high noon with Grassi prevailing in straight sets.  Rackets aficionado Shi-Nan Zhang and Petra Napolitano were next on the docket.  Napolitano was determined to keep her foot on the pedal before Zhang got the hang of the bounces and chases, as her comfort level increased game by game.  Napolitano emerged victorious in straight sets with some fantastic rests enjoyed by the spectators.  Dara Walsh and Sara… Read the Full Story >

US Junior Nationals and Parent/Child — 2006

While the timing of the Junior Nationals and the National Parent/Child on December 15-17 was difficult due to final exams and holiday obligations, the juniors and the parents who did make the excursion to Philadelphia enjoyed themselves tremendously and were treated to first class hospitality in the Philadelphia Racquet Club style.
