NEW YORK OPEN HANDICAP The Racquet and Tennis Club hosted the The Silver Racquet November 4th-8th. The event continues to be a highlight of both the tournament and social schedule for the Racquet sport community in North America and Europe. In addition to 7 fantastic draws played in Racquets, Tennis and Doubles Squash, the club hosted a Stag Dinner on Thursday Night for 50+ and magical Saturday Night Dinner Dance for nearly 600 eager partygoers. Spence Stages Dramatic Comebacks to Secure Jimmy Knott Title Submitted by Jeffrey Horine A competitive field gathered for the Jimmy Knott Memorial singles event at Boston’s Tennis & Racquet Club from October 16-18, with eight of the event’s 12 participants carrying a handicap between 14-22. In the end, Alex Spence, who staged two dramatic comebacks during 4 ½ hours of court time, squeezed his way through the crowded field to secure the title with a victory in the finals over Jeremy Wintersteen by the score of 6/5 4/6 6/5.     Over Columbus Day weekend, October 9-11, 2015, 16 junior players gathered at the Prince’s Court for the under-19 junior doubles playing for the Lieb Cup. Named in honor of the late John Lieb who endowed a fund for junior player development, the Lieb Cup has been held since 2000 to bring junior players together to compete in level doubles at multiple age groups. As in the past, the Washington families and professionals outdid themselves in hosting the event and welcoming the out of town players. 2015 Sears Cup Results

  The R.D. Sears Cup was held at the T&R last weekend. It is the first USCTA tournament of the 2015-2016 season! We hosted players from seven different clubs. Players traveled from far and wide. Besides a great draw in Court Tennis, there were tournaments in Racquets and Squash as well. Matches began on Thursday evening and continued through to Sunday. Michael Flinn 1941-2015

Michael Flinn 1941-2015

Michael Flinn passed away on August 1, 2015. As recently as May, Michael captained the 2015 U.S. Danby Cup Team which competed in the over 70 international team championships at Prested Hall. In March of 2015, Michael partnered with Jonathan Pardee to win his second consecutive U.S. 70s Doubles title. Michael also won the U.S. 70s Singles titles in 2012 and 2013. Michael was a great supporter of tennis and was a member of the USCTPF board. He will be missed. The pictures below were taken at Prested Hall during the Danby Cup matches. U.S. Junior Singles – A HUGE Success By Jane Lippincott   The National Tennis Club hosted the 2015 U.S. Under 19, Under 17, Under 15 and Under 13 Junior Singles. Despite a short downpour on Friday night, the weekend was a huge success. Thirteen players participated representing Chicago, Boston, Tuxedo, Washington, New York, Newport and the UK.
