2022 U.S. 60s and 70s

2022 U.S. 60s and 70s

by Rob Whitehouse The Racquet Club was proud to host the U.S. 60s & 70s this past weekend. Even though they may have been missing some usual suspects, the draws were extremely competitive throughout the weekend. The 70s singles draw had a barn burner in the quarters between John Schellenberg & Phil Straus, with the match seeing both players trying to construct nice rallies and exposing the open court when presented. Schellenberg prevailed with a 6-5 win in the third set. The semis saw Greg Van Schaack play too tidy for Steve Sader with a 6-2 6-0 win. The other semi… Read the Full Story >

USCTA Annual Dinner

USCTA Annual Dinner

by James Zug In mid-December 2021, the Racquet & Tennis Club hosted the twentieth-fourth annual United States Court Tennis Association dinner and auction during the traditional Whitney Cup weekend. One hundred and eighty-four people came to the dinner. The evening, chaired most ably by Ted Goneos, began with a splendid cocktail hour in the main lounge of the club’s second floor. Especially because of the pandemic, it was a reunion of sorts, with old friends gathering from every club in the U.S. and a half dozen overseas. As usual, there were a wonderful panoply of silent auction items: a photograph… Read the Full Story >

2021 Jimmy Knott

2021 Jimmy Knott

by Tony Hollins A big thank you to everyone who played in this year’s event. We had a fantastic crowd to watch some incredible court tennis, which was a breathe of fresh air after a long hiatus from national court tennis events during COVID-19. This was the event of the up-and-comers with both events won by unseeded players. Pete Dickinson defeated Ben Hudson 6/3, 5/6, 6/4 in another epic match to claim the A Division. Wes Traub defeated Connor Richmond 6/5, 6/5 in a very tight affair to win the B division. CLICK HERE TO VIEW FULL RESULTS

2021 Pell Cup

2021 Pell Cup

2021 PELL CUP REPORT by Mike Gooding What had angered the gods so much in order to place 2021 Pell Cup between Scylla and Charybdis, in our terms, a once in a hundred-year pandemic and a once in a thirty year hurricane. We had already waited a long two years since the last Pell Cup was held and as such, those tournament results had already faded from memory. There was a glimmer of hope in early May that we would be able to hold this year’s Pell Cup, with the dropping of restrictions that included playing without a mask and… Read the Full Story >

International Tennis Day 2021

June 20, 2021, marked the eighth anniversary of International Tennis Day. There was plenty of on-court activity in the US and overseas both on Sunday, June 20, and Monday, June 21. Tennis players celebrated the day with continuous play that included handicap tournaments, singles and doubles matches, and lessons. We understand that there were some highly competitive matches and received several photos from Newport, Philadelphia, New York, Tuxedo, Ballarat, Paris, Bordeaux, and Fontainebleau. Needless to say, the courts were in full swing. Enjoy the photos and we look forward to celebrating tennis again next year, on Monday, June 20, 2022.
