USCTA Annual Meeting

USCTA Annual Meeting

President’s Report by James Zug Last month the USCTA gathered for its annual general meeting. The venue was Tuxedo Park, which was hosting the World Masters. The meeting was very robust, with representatives of the other three national governing bodies and many members of the USCTA. My president’s report: The state of the U.S. Court Tennis Association is strong. We have 1,089 members, the most we have ever had. This is remarkable. If you had said a quarter century ago that we’d have almost eleven hundred members in 2019, no one would have believed it. Many clubs’ membership rolls have… Read the Full Story >

We had a fantastic week here in Philadelphia hosting the World Master 60s and 65s. With twenty-six entries across the singles and doubles in both age groups, it was lining up for some great action! Starting with the 60s singles, John Prenn cruised through his first-round matches to find himself against his doubles partner Jonathan Hamer who had a great game against Geoffrey Russell in the round before taking it 6/4 6/2. Hamer came out of the block starting well against Prenn going 2/1 up. Prenn finding his stride fought back and took the first set 6/2. Serving well and… Read the Full Story >

2019 U.S. 40s

by Ivan Ronaldson In the first semifinal Prince’s Court’s #1 seed Danny McBride dominated Tom Brownlie from Philadelphia 6/0 in the first set. Playing a similar game of control, both players battled hard till midway through the second set when Tom’s ironman fitness started to show. Brownlie took the second and third sets 6/4 6/4. John Motz had an easier time handling Kenny Soffer in the bottom half of the draw. The new court and John’s devastating cut volley proved too much, and Motz won 6/2 6/1. The final looked set to be a battle of Motz’s aggression versus Brownlie’s control… Read the Full Story >

Treats for Teams in Tuxedo

by Steve Hufford The Bostwick and Danby teams, three each, had the enviable assignment of practicing and competing for a week in Tuxedo Park. With matches overseen by the capable, yet somewhat immobile, Tim Chisholm; daily breakfasts and lunches provided courtside; and access to all the amenities of the Park, the players enjoyed amazing team dynamics, constant high-quality play, and the relaxing environs of the lake and grounds. Charles de Casteja, billeting lead, called on his deep bench of hosts to house just about all the players from Australia and England, along with some US players.  The soggy weather during the… Read the Full Story >
