The court will be built on the Daniel Island Club’s (DIC) land. The DIC is located on Daniel Island, formerly the private plantation of the Guggenheim Family, located in the City of Charleston, 12-15 minutes from downtown. The DIC has 2 golf courses, 10 har-tru tennis courts, 1 grass tennis court, two swimming pools, a gym, a beautiful main club house and many other amenities, including banquet facilities for large parties and balls. Five newly constructed “club cottages” will be available to house visiting players during tournaments or just vacations in Charleston.
The DIC has granted us the option to build our court on their land and to rely on them to operate the court once it is completed. In doing this, the DIC is not only contributing a $350K-valued piece of property for construction of the court, they are also agreeing to operate that court, including all expenses for taxes, maintenance, insurance, climate control, professional staffing, etc. (easily a $100K per year expense). This is a huge boost to our fund raising effort!!!
The project will take place in two-phases, which will be completed concurrently, if funding allows. Phase I will include: a fully fitted air conditioned court tennis court; state of the art lighting; dedans with seating; royal dedans with a fireplace and viewing into the court; the USCTA Hall of Fame (temporary location in the royal dedans); two bathrooms; a kitchenette. The total cost for Phase I is: $1.6 million.
Phase II will include: a fully built USCTA Hall of Fame Gallery; men’s and women’s locker rooms; a pro-shop and receiving area; upper level royal dedans; expanded detailing on the outside of the building. The total cost for Phase II is: $800K
As of May 31st, we have raised $485K in pledges from roughly 10% of the USCTA membership. Of that, $155K in pledges has come from Charleston based contributors. Both the USCTA and USCTPF Boards will soon have 100% participation. We are hoping to achieve 100% participation from the USCTA membership – no amount is too small! All donations will be made through the USCTPF and therefore will be tax deductible. Gifts of stock can also be accepted. To make a pledge, simply email Greg Van Schaack at: GVS@USCTA.Org.
Upon legal documents being signed, Court Tennis Charleston will contact donors directly to honor their pledges; prior to that, no moneys will be collected.
If you have any questions regarding Court Tennis Charleston, please do not hesitate to contact Greg at the above address.
