The Tuxedo Club – August 4th–8th

The Tuxedo Club proudly hosted the 2025 Girls U19 Singles & Doubles World Championships, and it proved to be a memorable week for players, families, and supporters. Thanks to the exceptional efforts of Dianne Christensen, who organized a full calendar of social activities, and the support of the USCTPF, the tournament was a true celebration of competition and community.

Tournament Format

The organizers were determined to give all participants plenty of court time, resulting in a robust schedule: each player competed in three singles matches and three round-robin doubles matches, with doubles finalists earning a fourth match.

Singles Highlights

Coming into the championship, Katherine Carney was the strong favorite based on handicap, and she fully lived up to expectations. Dominant from start to finish, Carney claimed the singles title without dropping more than two games in any set.

The 3rd/4th place playoff featured a thrilling battle between Hazel Christensen and Darcie Blaber, with Christensen coming back to win 5/6, 6/3, 6/4.

In the Back Draw FinalMartha Raitt defeated Riya Bharwad 6/2, 6/2.


Doubles Highlights

The doubles round robin produced two standout pairings who advanced to the final:

  • Christensen & Yannuzzi (Tuxedo)
  • Carney & Compton-Burnett (Oratory/Wellington)

In their earlier round robin clash, Christensen & Yannuzzi scored a strong win over Carney & Compton-Burnett. However, in the final, Carney & Compton-Burnett adjusted their tactics, minimized unforced errors, and secured the 2025 U19 Girls World Doubles Championship.
