Westwood hosted the USCTA U17s and U19s over the weekend of July 27-28. In the U17s, Kurt Mueller (Tuxedo) played Wyatt Courson (Westwood); during an exciting match, Muller dominated the serve and took the match 6-0 6-0. In the second semi-final, Elliot Philpott (Westwood) played Aidan Bae (Westwood). After many games going to 40-40 game ball, Aidan took most of these points and won the match 6-1 6-1. In the final, Kurt played Aidan. The first set was incredibly tight with some long and thrilling rallies, and by the end, Kurt was victorious in the 1st set 6-5. In the second set, Aidan came storming back with awesome volleying and won the set 6-5. Kurt fought back and eked out the last set 6-4.
In the U19s, Aidan Bae played Laszlo Garson (Oxford) in the semi-finals. Aidan struggled to convert his game over from the match against Henry Werner (Philadelphia), which Aidan won 6-4 6-0. As a result, Laszlo took control of the game and won 6-1 6-0.
On the other side of the draw, Ambrose Garson (Oxford) played Kurt Mueller, who comfortably won his previous match against Elliot Philpott. During the match, Ambrose dominated serve and return and didn’t miss targets, taking the first set 6-1 in the second set. Kurt fought back to get to 3-3, but Ambrose kept the momentum going and closed out the set 6-3 to win the match.
For the final, it was the battle between brothers Ambrose and Laszlo. There were long rallies and some fantastic points. Lazlo played to a very high standard in the first set, taking it to 6-1. The second set was neck and neck until it got to 3-3, but Laszlo ended the tournament 6-1 6-3 and lifted the trophy.
