Making his debut overseas, Kurt Mueller of The Tuxedo Club competed in the British Junior National Championship, August 18-20 at the Queen’s Club in London.
Calm, composed, and collected, Mueller played classic tennis, finding galleries, tambours, and grills to win three qualifying matches 6-0, 6-0, 6-2, punching his ticket to Sunday’s final.
Albie Tomlinson from Oratory was competing for the National title; Mueller took the first game only to have the favor returned in the next game. From there, the 11-year-old settled in and won the next 8 of the next nine games in a row, winning the British National U12 title 8-2.
Earlier this summer, Kurt Mueller also won the US U 13 National title and was a finalist in the U11 and U15 divisions.
