by Rob Whitehouse
The 42nd annual Jimmy Dunn saw its biggest turnout in history, with 204 entrants competing in court Tennis, singles and doubles squash and racquets! Two hundred seventy-four matches were played over four days at the Racquet Club. We had players attend from all over the country and a few from across the pond. The tennis had fifty-six teams entered across seven different divisions. The atmosphere was incredible, with matches scheduled all day, and the competition was very even in all divisions. Most players entered multiple events, making for some exhausted players on Sunday! The Jock Soutar saw its deepest draw in its history.
A few highlights from some final matches were in the Open Division. The young guns of Freddie Bristowe and Henry Smith came out, hitting targets left and right and running out to nip the first set 6/5. Tanfield settled in and had Rob Whitehouse play a solid, consistent game as they took the second set 6/5. The third set started at three-all, but Bristowe was very solid, hitting targets and won the third set 6/4.
The A Draw saw an unseeded Tyler Sloan and Ben Hudson team make it to the finals with impressive wins over Will Hopton and Simon Shenkman in the first round. The semis were the Boston team of Andrew Roberts and Dave Tedeschi. The other side saw Mike Noll & Saby Bose play exceptionally well against Mark Windmill and James Rossiter and in the semis against Bill Barker & John Motz. The points in the final were excellent, but Hudson and Sloan were too tough with an 8/5 win.
The C Division Final was matched point for point throughout the match. Adam Haselkorn and Zeke Silverstein won the final point against Stephen Alexandre & Gordon McMorris in an 8/7 win.
Whether you participated, spectated, or danced the night away, we’d like to thank everyone involved in the historic 42nd Jimmy Dunn Tournament, Dinner and Dance.
Hope to see you next year at the Dunn! Congratulations to all the Winners and Finalists listed below:
