The Etchebaster trophy was keenly contested at the Racquet Club of Chicago from January 21st – 23rd 2022.

Although it was very cold over the weekend, we had 7 players coming in from New York, Boston, Detroit, Philadelphia and California.

There was also a strong field of Chicago players and a notable performance goes to Jared Isenthal, who had a great run to the semi-final before losing to Philadelphia’s Tim Carroll 6/3 6/2.

Chicago’s Chase Cochran, who was on the wrong end of a three-set thriller in the main event, went on to win the back draw final against Chicago’s top junior Holden Pettinelli 8/6.

The Etchebaster final of 2022 was between Tim Carroll and New York’s Kyle Martino (who earlier that day won the Kendrick cup for new racquets players).

Kyle had survived a three-set thriller on Saturday against Boston’s Lee Smith and seemed determined to win every point.

Tim was unable to really get going in the match and with Kyle’s noticeable improvement over the weekend won the match and the tournament 6/0 6/3.

Thanks to all of the players who made it to Chicago for our first tournament since the 2020 U.S Open.

Thank you to the Racquet Club General Manager Richard Duggan, Athletic chairman Baker Thompson, Head Chef Mike Coronel for his delicious Saturday buffet lunch and also to John Cashman and Steve Virgona for marking the tournament.
