Tommy Greevy, the longtime tennis pro at Tuxedo, died last Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. Earlier in November, he had celebrated his seventy-eighth birthday.
Born in Philadelphia, Thomas Matthew Greevy, Jr. worked at the Racquet Club of Philadelphia from 1956 to 1968 and then as head professional at Tuxedo Club from 1968 to 2010. A beloved coach and mentor, Greevy taught the game to hundreds of men, women and children, champions and beginners alike. A fine player-in 1973 he won the U.S. Professionals-he was a consummate marker, tournament director, friend, storyteller and practical joker. In 2000 he was inducted into the International Court Tennis Hall of Fame.
