The Racquet Club of Chicago is pleased to announce that our professional Steve Virgona, currently #3 world ranked, is a challenger the upcoming Court Tennis World Championship. Steve will be playing #4 world-ranked Bryn Sayers of Queen’s Club at the Racquet Club of Chicago on Tuesday, February 25th at 6pm in the second leg of the first eliminator. We are honored to host the World Championship Final Eliminator, presented by Brown Brothers Harriman & Co, at The Racquet Club in March.
As many of you are aware, Steve has made a major impact in court tennis interest and skill level at The Racquet Club. His kind nature and incredible talent have made him an invaluable asset to the game and our club. The eliminator match will be a display of tennis at the highest level.
Steve will play a three out of five set match in London at Queen’s Club on Tuesday, February 18th and then return to Chicago to play up to two more matches. The third match, if needed, will be on Thursday, February 27th at 6pm. The player who wins two legs advances to the Final Eliminator to compete against the winner of the other first eliminator match between Camden Riviere and Tim Chisholm. The World Championship, which is now contested every two years, will be held in Melbourne in late May. Rob Fahey is the defending champion and has held the title since 1994. Ticket sales will fund an important part of the expenses necessary to stage this competition. Please see the next two pages for tickets and seating. Tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis so please sign up quickly. We expect a sell out for both the eliminator and Final Eliminator. Please also be advised we will have a silent auction for the highly coveted pair of seats in the ‘grille’ for the Final Eliminator. We will host a handicap doubles tournament on the off days, as well as a junior singles tournament, for those looking to get on court.
