This years Knox drew a smaller then anticipated field of only 7 teams. One player dropped out at the last minute due to an injury, which forced Camden Riviere to join in and play with his right hand as a partner for Mike McElroy. We added a second doubles tournament with 7 teams to coincide with the Knox; The Aiken Spring Handicap for higher handicap players, and six players participated in the inaugural Knox Handicap Singles event. The Racquet Club held its last weekend event of the calendar year this past weekend. The draws were a bit small but extremely competitive on court. The singles draw saw three hard fought Quarter Final matches on Friday with David Boenning over taking Jules Zacher 6-0, 6-1, Peter Vogt winning 6-0, 6-2 over Steve Fazzini and Al Gordon out lasting Sewall Hodges 6-0, 6-3. The Semi’s on Saturday saw Greg Van Schaack have a classic floor game battle against David Boenning. Jonathan Pardee won the U.S. 70s Singles & Doubles in Newport earlier today. Pardee teamed up with Michael Flinn to win the Doubles over Tom Rowe and Frank Oliveira 6-5,6-5. Earlier Pardee defeated Oliveira 6-0,6-0 to capture the singles title. Details and pictures to follow.

Vive la France!! by Simon Aldrich The 2015 US Amateur and US Over-50 Championships were played in New York at the Racquet & Tennis Club March 19-22, 2015. Participation in the event was terrific and play was very competitive throughout the weekend. The Amateur included 18 players in the singles and 10 teams in the doubles. The 50s attracted 15 singles players and 8 doubles teams. Newcomer wins the 2015 Anne Boleyn by Sheila Reilly As has often happened in this tournament’s 30-year history, the winner was a relative newcomer to the game, Sarah Hamilton of Boston’s T&R, who bested a field of 17 players from across the US. Congratulations to Sarah and all the players. The Anne Boleyn was created by Edward Hughes, a past president of the USCTA and the person responsible, along with Barry Toates, for the original restoration of the Lakewood Court. The seventeenth annual USCTA Dinner and Auction was held on the Friday of the Whitney Cup weekend in New York. A packed house gathered for an evening of conversation and awards, capped off by a live auction to benefit the Charleston Court project. A silent auction was held during the cocktail hour. USCTA President – Jeremy Wintersteen – presented the 2014 USCTA Awards during the dinner.
