New York Racquet & Tennis Clubs Hosts 2008 U.S. Open

Form held up in the US Open this year, but some hints of future landscape in the game at the highest level appeared.  Rob Fahey showed why this extraordinary player continues to comfortably sit at the top of the ziggurat. Greevy and Noll Cup Report

The entries in the Greevy cup this year were a bit disappointing, two of our regular Aiken players were unable to play one due to injury and the other was going to be out of town. So there were just the four of us battling it out. Rick Preston narrowly beat Dacre Stoker, who gave owe half 15, in a tight 3 set match: 6-5, 3-6, 6-3 while Ben Cook, gave owe half 15, beat Charlie Bostwick 6/2 6/1. Curren wins 2008 Burke Cup

A small, but determined group of players gathered in Newport for the 2008 Burke Cup. The tournament, for players in the handicap range of 32-38, was played off handicap.   Frank Curren moved easily through the top half of the draw to reach the finals. The only tight match was between Blake Henderson, who had just returned from a month in Dubai, and world traveler, Peter Bender. Henderson won in three. This year’s Etchebaster Cup Tournament, held at the Racquet & Tennis Club January 25 through 27, set the record for the second largest draw ever with twenty-four entrants from Boston, Washington, Tuxedo and New York.  The format of the tournament was the same as the very successful Etchebaster tournament held at the R&T two years ago: to make the event more interesting to players with 30+ handicaps, the Tournament Committee (Tournament Chair, Lindsay McManus, and Tournament Organizer, Mike Gooding) added a consolation draw for players who did not win in their first match of the event, guaranteeing all players at… Read the Full Story >
