~Anne Boleyn& Women’s Invitational

Chatter was a “flurry”…. There were predictions of inclement weather for the mid-east northward to Philadelphia starting last Friday Feb 5.  Should or could the Anne Boleyn and the 1st  Women’s Invitational tournaments be played in Philadelphia Feb 5-7?  That being said, not even heavy snowfall outside or even on the court prevented the tournaments from being played as scheduled. ~Greevy Cup Recap

From January 22nd through January 24th, the Greevy Cup was contested for by players with handicaps between 20-29 at the Racquet Club of Philadelphia. Three of the four semifinalists are veterans of the game but it was the one newcomer, Jon Crowell, that took home the honors. After outlasting John Madzin 6-Love in the 3rd set on Saturday afternoon, Crowell met Andrew Purcell in the final match on Sunday morning. Purcell survived a marathon semifinal earlier Sunday morning against Peter Vogt, lasting an amazing 2+ hours. ~Burke Cup – Updated Report!

Prince’s Court welcomed players from Boston (Connors & Stockton), New York (Ziatyk), and from parts unknown (Bender) to the USCTA Level Championships for players with a handicap of 40-49, The Burke Cup.  It became quite clear from the first match of the tournament that William Connors (affectionately dubbed “The Boston Strong Boy” by Temple) routed a travel-weary Mike Ziatyk  and sent notice to the rest of the field that he was on a mission and would not be denied.  The question was, who would have the game to stop him?  Through many highly competitive matches over the course of the weekend, a… Read the Full Story >

US Parent Child

Gordon & Howard McMorris won their first US Parent Child title by defeating Paul & Alec Monaghan. The tournament was played at Georgian Court on January 16-17.
