We regret to announce that Robert M. “Bobby” Goodyear of Aiken, SC passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011. Bobby Goodyear loved the Aiken Tennis Club – serving as its president for 35 years. A former lawn and court tennis player himself, Goodyear, after giving up the games, loved watching his daughter, Ginny Goodyear and granddaughter, Dana Goodyear Kopald, progression in the game. His daughter, Margie Goodyear, although living in Colorado, would travel to Aiken from time-to-time to play as well. What most people in the court tennis world will remember his genuine hospitality. The Velvet Rope Doubles tournament, open to players aged 21-40, was held in Newport on July 15-17. The results were: A Final: Jake Worseldine/Ryan Carey def Brad Ursprung/Zack Sacks 10/6. The US Team comprised of: Pat Winthrop (Capt.), Dylan Ward, Garrett Gates and Tom Pickin travelled to Melbourne for the biennial team event. Matches were played over 2 days – singles and doubles.
