The Jimmy Knott singles tournament was held in Newport on October 21-23. Jeremy Wintersteen defeated Todd Merignoff in the final…the score was 6/2,6/5. In the back draw, Brian Owens defeated Andy Roberts 10/1. The draws are attached. * Lakewood Invitational

For the third year, intrepid Northeastern court tennis players packed in to the house that Gould built in scenic Lakewood, New Jersey for the 2011 Lakewood Invitational.  True, Lakewood is a strange mix of influences these days, but parts of the Georgian Court University campus, where the court still remains, appear just as they did a hundred years ago.  The court, for those not familiar with it, is housed in a larger building called The Casino.  Court tennis was just one of the entertainments held within The Casino’s doors.  Our fair game was accompanied by hard racquets, polo, bowling, swimming,… Read the Full Story >

* John E. “Jack” Slater

John Edmund Slater, age 89, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2011after an extended illness. Born in 1922 in Yonkers, New York, John was a true depression-era baby.  He was the only child of Margaret and John Slater, a copy-rewrite editor for the Yonkers daily newspaper.
