Hickey Cup – Handicaps 60+ Alex Forbes defeated Beth Winthrop 6/1,6/3 in the final of the Hickey Cup. Forbes, playing an error-free game, was able to keep the pressure on Winthrop throughout the match. Winthrop fought hard with great dedans defense and tight bobble serves. Forbes, however, had the advantage of strength and overpowering pressure with his shot selection. In the back draw, Adrian Camacho defeated fellow Washingtonian Haken Lonaeus 10/1. Camacho defended chases well and made it hard for Lonaeus to get to the serving end. Camacho has only been playing tennis for a month and is improving with… Read the Full Story >

Last year Philadelphia had hosted Tuxedo in the championshp match and had beaten them relatively easily, with Rob Whitehouse and Steve Virgona winning in straight sets. The year before Philadelphia had faced hosts New York in the inaugural finals and lost in an exciting match: Mike Gooding had defeated Whitehouse, Virgona took out James Stout and then Gooding & Stout had beaten Virgona & Barney Tanfield 8-4 in the doubles. … Read the Full Story >
The USCTA Level Championship for handicaps 30-39 (The Noll Cup) was held this past weekend at Prince’s Court. The field consisted of 13 entrants: 7 “locals” and 6 “exotics” representing New York, Newport, Philadelphia and Parts Unknown (Bender). The Prince’s Court players seemed to enjoy a home court advantage as the four semifinalists were Washington players. The top 2 seeds, Vu Hoang and Sara Lacombe took a page from the earlier in the… Read the Full Story >
