* Hickey Cup 2013 – Chris Hughey Wins!

Prince’s Court hosted this year’s 60+ level tournament. The action began Friday night as players squared off to move onto the semi-final rounds. Top seeded entrants included Chase Motz and Chris Hughey who played strongly in their opening round matches to move on in straight sets. Saturday’s semi-final matches saw two very close matches that both went to three sets. Matt Longley started out strong, but couldn’t hold on in his match against Chris Hughey, with Hughey winning at 3/6 6/5 6/5. *Greevy Cup – Jasani Wins!

Rakesh Jasani defeated Dave Tedeschi, 6/2,6/3, in the finals of the 2013 Greevy Cup. The national level championship for players with handicaps between 20 and 29 was held in Aiken. In the back draw, Andy Roberts defeated Ryan Carey 6/4,6/2.

Less than 24 hours after the final of the US Open Doubles, Philadelphia turned its attention to the 2013 Wharton Cup. The Wharton Cup is a national level singles event for players with handicaps between 50 and 59. Eleven players from Philadelphia, Newport and Washington competed for the title. Bill Rives from Newport and David Berry from Washington put up a good fight, but it was the Philadelphians that dominated the weekend. Cam is A ’Comin’   By James Zug   The past eight days have put an emphatic stamp on the world of tennis: Camden Scott Riviere is back. The ginger-haired southpaw from Aiken won the 61st United States Open on the Van Alen Court at the Racquet Club of Philadelphia. The members of the Aiken Tennis Club were thrilled to host the National Open January 11-14 and came out in force to watch ten of the top pros based in the US and three top amateurs who rounded out the field. Throughout the weekend we were all treated with warm weather, even by Aiken standards, which proved the incentive for most of our visiting pros to get in a few rounds of golf in between matches.
