by Ryan Carey The Cherry Blossom Doubles ’17 was held at Prince’s Court from April 6th-9th.   This year’s theme was a “game show” theme inspired by the cherry blossom-esque flowers that decorate the set of The Price Is Right. We had a large draw of 16 ladies sign up; the welcoming handicapped format meant that some of these ladies were brand new to the game, only having played a handful of times. There were some stand out performances from newcomers Emma Haley, Olenka Olesnycky, Alex Post and Maura Imel, all coming from strong racquet sports backgrounds and battling with success in their first Court Tennis event. U.S. Amateur Doubles Racquet Club of Chicago Winthrop/Cook def. Miron/Cipriano 6-5, 6-2, 5-6, 6-4 Recap by Steve Virgona The Racquet Club of Chicago proudly hosted the U.S. Amateur Doubles Tournament from March 16 – 19, 2017. The event coincided with the Rackets U.S. Amateur Singles and Doubles Tournaments. By having all three events simultaneously, the size and depth of each draw was enhanced significantly. Grassi Accepts Invitational Victory

Helen Grassi won the Ladies Invitational tournament held at Prince’s Court last weekend.   Grassi defeated fellow Bostonian Suzy Schwartz in the singles final 6-0, 6-2.  The Singles Finalists teamed up to win the Invitational Doubles title over Washington’s Tess Browne and Aiken’s Claire Voegele 6-1, 6-1.  Full report and photos to follow.

Georgian Court University to Host Court Tennis Exhibition

Lakewood, N.J., February 17, 2017—Georgian Court University will host a court tennis exhibition match on Thursday, February 23, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. in the Casino building on GCU’s historic Lakewood campus. The match will pit Camden Riviere, GCU’s newest pro and the current men’s world champion and men’s doubles world champion (world ranked #1) against John Lumley, assistant professional at the Racquet Club of Philadelphia (world ranked #11).
