Don’t be confused…these are the results from the 2008/09 US 50’s singles and doubles. They were scheduled for January 2009, then re-scheduled to May and then to October. The finals were re-scheduled mid-tournament to New York, where they were officially completed last Thursday. The 2009/10 version will be played in March 2010 in Aiken. The Tennis & Racquet Club was pleased to host the Jimmy Knott over the October 23rd weekend. Formerly known as the Boston “A” Invitational, the tournament was renamed in memory of Jimmy Knott the year after he won it. This year’s small but solid field had players from Boston, New York, and Philadelphia in it.The first round went as generally expected but with good results from Alex Spence taking Shawn Herlihy to three sets and Jeff Horine taking George Bell to 5/6 in the second. New York played Newport on Wednesday, October 7, in the first National League match of the season. The National League, organized by the pros, provides match play between professionals at the various clubs. The matches are played in one night, with 2 singles matches, followed by a doubles.
