Across April 28th and 29th, the Anne Boleyn was held at Georgian Court (Lakewood, NJ); 10 enthusiastic players traveled from Newport, Boston, Tuxedo, and Philadelphia to compete for the coveted trophy. Sunday’s main draw was driven by Saturday’s round robin match play:
Group 1
Amy Gold – 1st
Jeannie Heffernan – 2nd
Priscilla Person 3rd
Petra Napolitano — 4th
Ayca Yesim — 5th
Group 2
Helen Grassi — 1st
Beth Winthrop — 2nd
Shirley Freitag — 3rd
Laura Tillsley — 4th
Arianae Tsavaris — 5th
Beth Winthrop, in the end, was the winner of the tournament, snatching the prize from Jeannie Heffernan, in a hard-fought 8-4 victory.
Highlights of the weekend, included skills clinics run by Rob Whitehouse, Head Professional, Racquet Club of Philadelphia, facility tours, and a hotly-debated appearance by the ghost of Jay Gould.
Thank you to Rob for organizing, coaching, and marking, and to Lori Raia Thomas, Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, Georgian Court University, and Bill McLaughlin and Rich Moroscak, USCTPF, for their support of the event.
