The 2012 Anne Boleyn, ladies national handicap championship was held concurrently with the U.S. Mixed Doubles Championship at the International Tennis Club of Washington April 19th through 22nd.
The Anne Boleyn featured players from Aiken, Boston, Newport and Washington with handicaps ranging from 32 to 94. The quickness of Boston’s Suzy Schwartz, who played more like a 45 rather than a 55 was too much for the power game of Sara Lacombe and Suzi won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. Cecilia Forbes won the plate defeating Boston’s Nancy Multer 10-7.
There were five teams that competed in the mixed doubles championship which culminated in a slug-fest between Newport and Washington. A large crowd of spectators was treated to some first class tennis as Amanda Avedissian’s punishing volleys and Pat Winthrop’s steady, measured game over powered the Washington duo of Sara Lacombe and Rich Moroscak 6-1, 6-3.
Washington Head Professional Ivan Ronaldson did an excellent job of organizing and marking the tournaments.
As is the custom in Washington there was plenty of off court entertainment. Friday night cocktails was organized by Cecilia Forbes and Christine Donovan. On Saturday night dinner was held in the home of Pat Homer. Saturday breakfast and lunch were handled by Sara Lacombe and Christy Ronaldson.
