The United States will host the Van Alen, Clothier, and Limb Cups (VACL) July 11 -16. The Westwood Country Club will hold the premier international junior tennis team event. The biennial tournaments are comprised of juniors under 26 from the U.K., USA, and Australia and rotate between countries.
Each country’s team includes 4-6 players. The U.S. team includes Freddie Bristowe, Erik Barker, Henry Smith, Noah Motz, and Chase Motz. All have played in previous team matches and have been preparing with the help of Junior Coaches – Tim Chisholm and Camden Riviere. Before Chisholm and Riviere, Ivan Ronaldson played a key role in developing the current team.
The schedule is as follows:
July 11 & 12 – Limb Cup – Australia vs. U.K.
July 13 & 14 – Clothier Cup – USA vs. Australia
July 15 & 16 – Van Alen Cup – USA vs. U.K.
Four singles will be played on the first day of each pairing, followed by four doubles the following day. In the event of a tie, a fifth doubles match will be played.
Before the team competitions, all players will compete for individual honors in the U26 singles and doubles to be played at Westwood on July 7-9.
The international team matches are steeped in history, with the Van Alen Cup dating to the 1950s. Over several days, many cross-border friendships are born and, in many cases, friendly lifelong rivalries.
All tennis matches for both the U26s and the VACL will be live-streamed on the USCTA YouTube channel. Match times will be posted in the next week.
The VACL week will include sporting events, dinners, and other social activities to keep everyone entertained. The USCTPF Player Development Fund provides the funding and coaching for the week-long display of top junior competition.
