New York played Newport on Wednesday, October 7, in the first National League match of the season. The National League, organized by the pros, provides match play between professionals at the various clubs. The matches are played in one night, with 2 singles matches, followed by a doubles. The singles matches are best of 3 sets and the doubles is a 10 game pro set.
